About me

My name is Claudio Ferreira Costa. I was born in Vila Seropédica, near Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I hold an M.S. in Philosophy from IFCS (Rio de Janeiro) and a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Konstanz (Germany). From 1992 to 2025, I have worked as a researcher and full professor at UFRN (Natal), in the beautiful Northeast of Brazil, while remaining actively engaged in international philosophical debates through research stays at institutions such as Konstanz (with Peter Stemmer and Wolfgang Spohn), Munich (with Fredo Ricken), Berkeley (with John Searle), Oxford (with Richard Swinburne), Göteborg (with Anna-Sofia Maurin), and the École Normale Supérieure (with François Recanati). I believe that some of my works overthrow contemporary mainstream philosophy by offering greater comprehensiveness and explanatory power, while remaining within the analytical tradition. The leading publications include Lines of Thought: Rethinking Philosophical Assumptions (2014), Philosophical Semantics: Reintegrating Theoretical Philosophy (2018), and How Do Proper Names Really Work (2023). I am currently finishing a book on a metaphilosophy titled On the Nature of Philosophy (Sobre a natureza da filosofia).
